PANAFEST
&
Emancipation Day Celebration

West Africa
(an annual event every year during June/July)

The motherland is calling all people of the Diaspora to a
celebration of African unity at the Panafest & Emancipation Day 2004.
Enjoy the native Ghanaian Culture, hospitality and historical sites.

Day 1NEW YORK
Depart JFK Int’l. Airport on our transatlantic overnight flight for Accra, Africa. (meals in flight)

Day 2 – ACCRA
Arrive Accra; met & transferred by our WWCT representative to our hotel. Orientation & half-day tour. (Welcome Dinner). Accra has been Ghana’s capital since 1877. It also serves as the Administrative & Political Capital.

Day 3 – ACCRA
Today we visit the Ghana National Museum, Makola market, Kwame Nkrumah Msusoleum & the Arts Center where we will discover more about famous Pan-Africanists & African heritage. Drive past the Black Star Square and Christianborg Castle.

Day 4 - KUMASI
Depart for Kumasi (the Garden City) in the Ashanti Region. Participate in ongoing festival such as Adae/Akwasidae.

Day 5 – KUMASI
Tour Ashanti Arts & Craft Villages--Bonwire, Ahwai & Ntonso for a unique collection of African arts & crafts.

Day 6 – KUMASI
Visit Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology.

Day 7 – CENTRAL REGION
Depart Kumasi for the Central Region, visit Cape coast & Elmina Castle. Tour slave dungeons. Participate in ongoing festivals. This 3-hour bus ride will enable us to see some of the villages enroute.

Day 8 – PANAFEST CELEBRATION
Visit Nnonkonsu at Assin Manso, the slave stream where slaves had their last bath in Africa. Walking tour of Cape Coast Township. Participate in Panafest Durbar & Emancipation Day Program. This is the special Remembrance Day Celebration.

Day 9 – PANAFEST CELEBRATION
Grand Durbar of chiefs & people, fantastic celebrations with enactment of the slave trade. Wreath laying ceremonies for Pan-African leaders. International Black Music Concerts. Colloquium. of the Central Region.

Day 10 – ACCRA
Return to Accra, driving through historical Fante towns of Kormantse-Abandze, twin fishing villages where the first slave revolt happened and the late Louis Armstrong, the great Jazz Player, traced his ancestry; Also visit Saltpond, Anomabo and Mankessim. Evening transfer to airport for our flight back to the USA—taking with us the most wonderful, unforgettable memories of our once-in-a-lifetime journey together.
